Optometrist, Optician, Ophtalmologist

This month; understand the difference between the optometrist (O.D.), the ophthalmologist (M.D.) and the optician (O.O.D).

An optometrist followed a university program of 5 years leading to a doctorate. They do a complete eye exam to insure the health and good vision of your eyes. Furthermore, they can prescribe, sell and adjust ophthalmic lenses, treat eye problems or redirect patients towards a specialist.

The ophtalmologist followed a specific training in ophthalmology and has a medical doctorate. They diagnose and treat eye problems under the reference of the optometrist. They prescribe the drugs or surgery needed to solve the troubles.

An optician has a collegial diploma obtained after a three-year program. They are a professional able to sell and adjust ophthalmic lenses according to the prescription made by the optometrist or ophthalmologist.

June-July

It’s official: summer is here, school is over and it is time to take advantage of the beautiful weather! Remember to protect your head, your skin and evidently: YOUR EYES!

With this stunning sun, we want you all to remember how using your sunglasses the right way is of great importance to enjoy your summer even more. Thus, try to find a pair of sunglasses large enough to protect you against the rays coming from all around. Choose a frame that is strong and durable (especially for the little ones that are so active). It should be adjusted and tight enough that you will be tempted to wear it often.

Most of our sunglasses can be made with your prescription in them! Take an appointment soon so our optitians and assistants can help you find the perfect pair for you and your lifestyle.

Available here : Maui Jim, Michael Kors, Ray-Ban, Tiffany & co… and many more!

April, May, Covid 19

Ever since the government declared the emergency sanitary situation, everybody is giving their all to stay active. Did you know that you can also make your eyes workout?

Nowadays, our eyes are affected by blue light, luminosity contrasts and even simple daily activities such as driving or outdoor labour. It is not surprising to see watery eyes, irritation, headaches or neckaches.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of eyeglass lenses and instruments, Zeiss suggests some interesting exercises to do for your eyes. Our favourite? The eye socket massage:

Using your thumbs, massage the zone right under your eyebrow, from the top of your nose to the edge of the lid in small circular motions.

See the other suggested exercises here: https://www.zeiss.ca/vision-care/en/better-vision/health-prevention/a-workout-for-your-eyes.html

Symptoms in children

For many, March means spring break! Did you know that your kids also need to take an appointment with the optometrist? The RAMQ covers most fees for children up to 17 years old (inclusively).

However, don’t forget how fast they grow up! Children do not usually complain about sight problems or may not even be aware that they are experiencing them. Even if the last eye examination was made right before going back to school, pay attention to the signs that may occur. They can develop very quickly:

  •          Unusual performance in school;
  •          Avoiding up close work and loss of interest in reading;
  •          Losing the line during reading;
  •          Tendency to hold the book closer;
  •          Turning or moving their head to use only one eye;
  •          Recurrent headaches;
  •          Etc.

Contact us if you think you or a member of your family needs an appointment.

20-20-20 rule

February is the season of love and Valentine’s Day. Give love to your eyes and book an appointment with us. For the year 2020, think 20-20-20 break!

Taking a break from work is not only a great idea, its essential to your eye health and comfort. The “20-20-20” rule consists of taking a 20 second break every 20 minutes, and look at an object 20 feet away from you. This technique will give your eyes a well-deserved break, and can even lessen the consequences of using your computer for so long.

Moreover, you can equip your frames with lenses with a protection against blue light, which helps decrease the harmful impact of the screen light. This will help get your eyes less tired and could even increase your sleep.

Taking care of your glasses

To prevent premature wear and tear on your lenses and the misalignment of your frame, it is important to follow the care advice of your eye care professionals. It is necessary to always put on and take off your glasses using both hands to avoid breakage of the branches. When you are not wearing them, leave them in their case. Do not put them on your head, which would enlarge your frame, and do not leave them in the car as extreme temperatures can destroy the lens treatments.

Your frame is out of adjustment, bent or your lenses seem frosted?

Come see us and we will find a solution!

The importance of sun protection

We see a lot of emphasis on sunscreen to protect our skin from ultraviolet rays. Did you know that these same UV rays also destroy the inner tissues of the eye and that a quality lens can protect you in all seasons? What are your outdoor activities? Driving, reading, hiking? Are you exposed to reflections on the snow during your winter activities or on water during summer activities? Our eye care professionals are trained to give you the best advice. Opt to make your choices with those who know your sight!
