Did you know that an eye exam is recommended for children at the age of three years old? This examination makes it possible, among other things, to detect anomalies and prevent the degradation of potential problems. Vision examination is paid by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec for persons under 18 living in Quebec.
Throughout school, an annual eye exam is required to assess the child's vision changes, binocularity, and eye health; the examination is even more important if the child already wears glasses or contact lenses, or if a binocular abnormality has already been diagnosed.
In the presence of a visual disorder, children do not necessarily make the connection between their eyes and their vision, and the pains or discomforts they feel. It is therefore possible that they do not complain. Pay attention to the following signs:
- Eye that deviates
- Blinking of the eyes, tearing
- Sensitivity to light
- Reaction when hiding an eye
If in doubt, make an appointment with your optometrist.
